Principle


Over a career of 28 years, Don has been involved with projects both nationally and internationally representing over well $3 billion in total project cost covering land and site development, facilities and equipment. The projects range from major land development and entitlements, industrial, and corporate facilities to urban redevelopment, entertainment, hospitality and residential. The clients have ranged from Fortune 500 companies, fastest growing businesses and developers to cities, municipalities, educational and medical institutions. He has been a past and current member of major associations such as:

Prior Experience
From 1997 through 2002, Don served as a Corporate Vice President of DMJM and Holmes & Narver, both are AECOM Companies. When Don joined AECOM in October 1997, the "Private Sector" practice of Holmes & Narver in Orange, California consisted of limited aerospace industry experience, fast food establishments for Carl’s Jr., and service station roll-out program for Unocal and only one major entertainment client, Disney. The company had been flat in revenue for over 6 years and was in desperate need of image re-branding, re-tooling of the design studio with an infusion revenue. 
Donald Nevins has held key positions including Corporate Officer with such firms as The Austin Company, HNTB, and DMJM/AECOM. Don led a team which performed a strategic review of recent reports and assessments made by the state and local agencies and private sector for the Texas Life science market. 

Aerospace
• Boeing, Long Beach, CA: A/E task service order contract ($1,500,000)

• TRW, Redondo Beach, CA: Design/build for the expansion of building M-4, a satellite high bay structure ($8,000,000)

• Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, Palmdale, CA: A/E for renovation and expansion to Building 636 ($2,000,000)

• Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, Ft. Worth, TX: Onsite A/E and design build services supporting facilities for the $200B Joint Strike Fighter program. ($5,000,000)

Hospitality
• Makar Properties, Newport Beach, CA: Master planning, design, entitlements for a 30 acre prime oceanfront property in Huntington Beach with a 400 room 4-star hotel, spa, a 225,000 s.f. of retail and entertainment center. ($750,000)

• Makar Properties, Newport Beach, CA: Master planning and developing design concept for a 350 room resort, spa and golf course at Puenta Mita, Mexico. ($70,000)
• St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort and Spa, Dana Point, CA: Master planning, design, A/E and design build for a 400 room, five star resort situated on a bluff overlooking both the Pacific Ocean and golf course with high-end residential single family units that border it. In addition, a four star restaurant, specialty restaurant and lounge bar and club provide dining experience for everyone. ($150M)

Entertainment
• Santa Anita Race Track Grandstands Renovation, Arcadia, CA: Under an extremely fast track design / build approach, converted the oldest grandstand into a four star restaurant and entertainment club. The project included the addition of a new outdoor apron for guest patrons as well as the "Winners Circle". A new support level was added onto the existing structure to accommodate the restaurant, kitchens and support areas. Renovation to gaming areas, back of house operations provided improved operations. Significant upgrades were made for ADA, emergency exiting and the like to bring the 1930's facility into current compliance. ($35M)

• Magna Entertainment, Boynton Beach, FL: Master planning through A/E for a new $75M thoroughbred horse racing training facility to house and train over 2,000 horses. Project includes training facilities, three racetrack surfaces and support functions on a 300 acre site. ($2,800,000 – A/E)

• Magna Entertainment, Halindale, FL: Master planning and design of the complete re-build ($250M) to the Gulfstream Racetrack, including new grandstand, turf club and simulcast center, reconfigured tracks and new barns for 2,000 horses. In addition Forest City was selected as the developer of the connecting retail entertainment center. ($2,200,000 – A/E)

• Movie World Theme Park, Madrid, Spain: Teamed with the Cunningham Group, provided the majority of the design, A/E and construction support services for Warner Bros. Movie World, a ($350M), 60-acre theme park, 30 kilometers south of Madrid. This park is comprised of 5 lands - a Hollywood Boulevard, a Movie Studio area, Super Heros Land, a Western area, and a Cartoon Village for young children. There will be a 3-D theater and two live show theaters. Major rides include four large coasters, a tower shot, two flume rides, a raft ride, and two motion-base dark rides. Also included are daytime and night lagoon shows. The park has a wide variety of food service sizes and types. Skill games are located in tow of the lands along with 12 flat rides, a children's theater, a children's coaster, and a live street stunt show. For an 8-month operation, attendance is projected at 4.8 million.
 
• The Clubhouse, South Coast Plaza, CA: Design / build of 18,000 SF themed restaurant. The project consists of several different dining areas, which are divided into a casual first-floor cafι to more upscale dining in the Club or Grill Rooms. The Board Room, a private banquet area, seats an additional 100 guests. The Trophy Room, is an after-dinner type bar. Celebrity owners include Kevin Costner, Fred Couples, Jack Nicholas and Robert Wagner. ($10M)

Urban Lifestyle Projects

• Tulsa Development Authority, Tulsa, OK: Performed Market Feasibility Assessment Study leading our urban master planning redevelopment of 115 acres on the east side of downtown Tulsa. Master planning of the area included urban residential, retail, entertainment and civic uses.

• Tulsa Parking Garage, Tulsa, OK: A/E and construction support services for a new 1,100 car parking structure with ground floor commercial development. ($10M)

• Parkway Crossing, Orem, UT: Performed master planning, concept design and A/E and teamed with a contractor for the design build of 40-acre student housing village center adjacent to the west campus of Utah Valley State College. The project amenities includes the village street level retail center with housing above, student and sport-related activities, all with a focus on livable environments and life-style retail and entertainment.($50M)

• Banning Lewis Ranch, Colorado Springs, CO: For past client Makar Properties/CPH, assembled a team of land development engineers (TC&B) for the 22,000 acre development. Project underway. The project is a 20 year master plan and initial infrastructure is under construction.

• Adventist Health Systems West, Roseville, CA: Master planning, space programming, and design of corporate campus including two office buildings totaling 200,000 s.f. Each 2-story brick and glass building contains an atrium lobby with vaulted ceilings. ($8M)

• American Honda Motor Co, Inc., Torrance, CA: Space programming and master planning for their new corporate headquarters complex which included Design Center, Parts Distribution, Computer Center, Service Center and Headquarters totaling over 2,500,000 s.f.
 
• Boeing Commercial Airplane Co., Everett, WA: Major expansion of 2.5 million sq. ft to existing 747 plant, to support the new 767 program. Production included wire harness, structural test slab and final assembly operation. Facilities included network of under slab utility, pedestrian tunnels and trenches, overhead bridge cranes, special "hangar" doors and tooling. ($150M)

• Boeing Commercial Airplane, Renton, WA: Four building complex of 240,000 sq. ft. to accommodate design engineers for 767 and 757 programs. Due to the critical need for space, the project was implemented under a "fast-track" design/build project approach generating a beneficial occupancy within 6 months on the initial two buildings and completion of the entire complex within 9 months. ($50M)

• Boeing Corporate, Seattle, WA: Planning, design and construction for renovation to the existing corporate headquarters (circa 1942) including interiors and new main lobby addition. ($8M)

• Boeing Missile and Space, Kent, WA: Design and engineering of a new 250,000 sq. ft sub-assembly and final production assembly for the Air Launch Cruise Missile (ALCM) program. Production operations included chemical processing, fuselage/skin forming an assembly tooling. Facility was designed for flexible manufacturing concepts such as: overhead material handling systems, distribution of utilities and flexible tooling. ($20M)

• Boeing Uranium Enrichment Program, Oakridge, TN: Design and engineering for a classified and secured facility. ($25M)

• NBC, Burbank, CA: Space programming for the entire west coast network complex, totaling over 2,000,000 s.f. The specific areas included administration, office, studios, post production, talent support facilities and other support facilities. The space planning and master plan was developed to support NBC through a 10-year window.

• Security Pacific National Bank, Brea, CA: Master planning, design, engineering and construction of a 688,000 s.f. $100 million data and item processing center. The state-of-the-art production plant included a 12 megawatt gas fired co-generation power plant, commissary to accommodate a staff of 2,000, maintenance support functions and office and administration areas. The majority of the center was 24-inch raised flooring and all of the support systems such as under-floor water protection, grounding, fire suppression, HVAC, and power. The center had a major battery and UPS system in conjunction with the power plant that sold electricity to Southern California Edison. ($100M)

• Toyota Motor Sales, Torrance, CA: Design, engineering, and installation for interior design for Toyota's 3-buidling corporate complex, including main offices, computer center, and food service center. The main corporate four story building houses a central atrium for the display of current and vintage automobiles. Finishes included granite pavers and wall covering, lush landscaping and open-plan partition furniture systems to accommodate over 1,200 people.

• Allergan, Sao Paulo, Brazil: Design and engineering of renovation to an existing 120,000 s.f. manufacturing plant for the production of contact lens care solutions. Existing warehouse areas were converted into production and included various Class 100 clean rooms for mixing and packaging operations. The design met current U.S. standards in order to increase flexibility to manufacture product for the United States. ($10M)

• American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Torrance, CA: Design and construction for Rider education Centers at four regional locations. The new facilities included classrooms, training rooms, administration facilities, along with on and off road education courses. ($10M)

• Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA: Design, engineering and construction of a 24,000 s.f. data center within the parking garage of a 4-story building. The center had raised flooring throughout for complete flexibility. Systems design included under-floor water detection, grounding, fire suppression, HVAC, ergonomic lighting, UPS, and emergency power generation. ($5M)

• Copley Newspapers, Torrance, CA: Design and construction for renovation to existing strip shopping center for offices to support the Circulation Department and production areas for inserts. The building was resurfaced to upgrade the aesthetics and new ergonomic Herman Miller furniture and ambient lighting systems. ($5M)

• Culver Studios (Sony), Culver City, CA: Master planning, design, engineering and construction services for redevelopment of the historical 10-acre complex which included sound stages, prop storage, talent areas, storage and restaurant dating back to the mid 1920s. As a part of the overall renovation of the site, designed a new 120,000 s.f. stage for live audiences. The entire grounds and buildings were restored to their original luster. The main "white house" was totally renovated to current codes and an underground parking garage was added to accommodate the parking requirements. Client was a partnership of Gannett and Grant Tinker, the former CEO of NBC. ($20M)

• KTVK/TV 3, Phoenix, AZ: Master planning, space programming, design, and engineering for the relocation of a 100,000 s.f. multi-media company. The functions included magazine publishing, radio stations, and the ABC affiliate. An existing two building complex was renovated and expanded to accommodate the entire operation. State-of-the-art studios, post production for video and live broadcast were implemented. The facility was designed with the upcoming conversion to digital. ($5M)

• McDonnell Douglas Aircraft, Long Beach, CA: Master planning of 1.7 MSF two building complex: subassembly and final assembly; painting; and testing including an 800,000 sq. ft expansion to existing 250,000 sq. ft aircraft assembly plant for the C-17 facility with under-slab trenches providing flexible utilities; overhead cranes, 180,000 s.f. of engineering offices; clean, seal, and paint building; and tooling fixture support. ($150M)

• McDonnell Douglas Aircraft, Long Beach, CA: Awarded the design and construction contract for the MD-12 program and performed master planning and design layout of the final assembly complex prior to the cancellation of the new aircraft program. ($500M)

• Northrop Grumman, Hawthorne, CA: Performed design and engineering for a new 300,000 s.f. Central Processing Center for the chemical processing, painting and sealing of aircraft parts. ($90M)

• Eisenhower Medical Center, Palm Springs, CA: Design build of
15,000 s.f. data center. The center had raised flooring throughout for complete flexibility. Systems design included under-floor water detection, grounding, fire suppression, HVAC, ergonomic lighting, UPS, and emergency power generation. ($2M)

• El Camino Real, Lancaster, PA: Design of a new 45,000 s.f. food processing plant for frozen burritos. The plant contains cooking of meat products and meets USDA standards. After cooking and preparation the burritos, they pass through a spiral freezer and are automatically wrapped and packaged. ($7M)

• Hughes Missiles Systems, Tucson, AZ: After acquiring General Dynamics Missiles, based in Pomona, Hughes decided to consolidate and relocate both company's California operations to the existing Tucson plant. The challenge was to completely re-master plan the existing campus, and 2 million sq. ft. campus and renovate the office and engineering office areas to attract the transfer of employees. The work was performed in partnership with the Hughes facilities team. ($25M)

• Orval Kent Foods, Vernon, CA: Renovation of 60,000 s.f. existing food processing plant for the production of salad dressings and condiments. Plans included new refrigerated production areas as well as drive-in freezers and refrigerators with racking for storage. The project included new cooking equipment and area preparation that met USDA standards. ($5M)

• Packard Bell, Chatsworth, CA: Industrial engineering and space programming for the re-engineering of the assembly and testing of personal computers. The new solution increased production while reducing the staff requirements. Due to a major earthquake, relocated the entire operation into lease buildings and resumed production within 10 days. ($2M)
